Day 5.

Todays the day we pick up our G Adventure Tour! After taking advantage of our private room all night we discovered this morning, we were the only ones to actually have a private room, everyone else had dorm rooms! WINNING! But while getting ready I had a real fun revelation, not only does my hair dryer not work in America meaning I had to resort to using the air con to dry my hair with (that was a fun experience) my beard trimmer also doesn't work so... Looks like I'm growing a frickin' beard! My high maintenance appearance is fastly becoming harder and harder to maintain!
So after some how putting myself together, I grabbed my ridiculously heavy backpack and headed down to meet our group. Everyone was sat waiting for our prompt departure at 9:30am. We all headed straight out to the van, she's a dream!! She has a trailer for luggage and her best feature... WIFI!!

We all excitedly piled in and made swift tracks! Our first stop was Philadelphia for lunch. Clearly I was having the iconic Philadelphia delicacy, Philli Cheese Steak. Everyone was pretty much in agreement, so our tour guide, Beca, took us to two of the best places in the city. Pat's and Gino's are two rival SteakHouses, convinently they are both opposite each other, giving a feel of some kind of old fashioned dual, I loved it! The two restaurants were surrounded by typically Philadelphian street artwork, most buildings had some sort of graffiti on, but the graffiti was mainly beautiful pieces or pictures of music idols, it's amazing the feel they gave to the place... But anyway, here's my delicious Philli Cheese Steak! (I chose to go with Pat's, and it turned out to be the better choice!)

After gorging myself on cheese, steak and bread, we all piled back into the van and began to make tracks for our next stop, Washington D.C.
We had to do a quick pit stop at a Target (I love saying Target.... Target...) for food and because a certain someone didn't think to bring a sleeping bag and pillow on a camping trip... Target deserves to be a world wonder. It's like Big W but on steroids! It felt like a game of super market sweep only being given 25 minutes so me and fliss were in a mad rush to find the stuff we need. We grabbed pillows which were $4!? (These caused a riot in the group when they found out) I grabbed a hair dryer because there is no chance I'm going 3 weeks with hair like this! A quick run through the checkouts then it was en route to the camp site!
We arrived as the sun was just starting to set and the moon was starting to take pride of place. We pulled everything out of the trailer and began putting up tents. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I'm probably not a natural camper (yes, I'm aware of the irony...) well turns out I am! That tent went up in about 4 minutes flat! And she's a doll!

Once the camp was all set up we began preparing a evening meal under to star filling sky. Taco's and salad were our meal of the night, pretty delicious considering the sources available to us!
Our evenings entertainment was a nighttime tour of the US Capitol.
We started our night tour with the Lincoln memorial, which is a place I've wanted to visit for a long time, I think the grand stature alone attracts me but being there it feels pretty powerful seeing the true size and feeling what respect the man must have had to be gifted such a memorial. We then got a group photo outside the reflecting pools and walked around the sites, we had to be a bit hasty  as the rain began to start, I finally got to use my pacamac!! And yes, I looked fabulous.

So now we're back at the campsite surrounded by the sounds of nature (I haven't decided if they're dreadful or delightful yet.. We'll see how I sleep) and prepare for a full day in Washington tomorrow!

Night!
