Day 2.

Hi!! Wasn't even sure where to start with today. We managed to cram so much in I don't think I could talk about it all so here are my best bits from today:

The Highline.
For people who haven't heard of The Highline is pretty amazing. It's a converted railway line which is now a garden that runs through the towering sky scrapers either side and it runs for about 18/19 blocks. For somewhere described as 'a concrete jungle' it has some unbelievable hidden gems of greenery!

Perry Street.
I FINALLY GOT TO GO!! 64 perry street is the official door of Carrie Bradshaw! I never knew a door could be so amazing! Well the view of the door, because the current owners have put a chain across the stairs stopping people from going near it! Who wouldn't want strangers on their doorstep!? Recommendation for SATC fans! We also went to a cute cafè called Buvette which did the nicest prosecco I've ever had and the friendliest staff! So, props to Buvette!

Brooklyn.
After not getting chance last time I came to NYC I really wanted to make the effort to go to the Brooklyn Bridge, and boy it did not disappoint! Despite the danger of New Yorkers flying past you at 30mph on their bikes, it's bizarrely one of the most serene places I've ever been! We sat on a bench about half way down and just people watched for about 30/40 minutes, you find some real characters that way! (Including a man on a bike going up and down forcefully taking people's photos for them!?) we then thought we'd take a wonder a little further into Brooklyn. I'll be honest, I was a little skeptical about Brooklyn, as every true New Yorker says they wouldn't be caught dead in Brooklyn. Which clearly means I'm not a New Yorker as I loved it! We meandered through a community park and down a few sidewalks and ended up at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. I think the main thing pulling us in was the blaring music and noise coming from the area, after coming through some hooded paths we ended up at a huge field perched right on the riverside looking out to the amazing skyline and a supersized TV. It was filled with hundreds of people all sat on sheets, towels, blankets or anything they could grab. We just as say managed to find a space large enough for two before a guy come on to introduce a movie, Beetlejuice!! So we ended our amazing first full day in NYC infront of the glistening skyline watching a classic film! Perfection!

Day 1.

Well here it's been and gone! All I can say is, what a long frickin' day! About 18 hours travelling out of 25 hours awake in total, including a 3 hour stint at customs, thinking I'd lost Fliss already, endless queues and about an hour's traffic jam into the city. But we're here! At our first stop, New York, and it's so exciting to be back!

So first of all, flying is hilarious when you befriend a flight attendant and hound them for alcohol, discovering some kind of foreign baileys substitute and loving it and almost getting knocked out by a gin turns into one hilarious flight!

After arriving massively later than we thought, we didn't have chance to do much which disappointed us a bit, but after being awake so long I'm happy to see my bed. So got a full itinerary for tomorrow and will hopefully have pictures to go with!

Hi!

So this is my first blog, not 100% sure what to do, but here goes nothing anyway!

I'll start with a quick introduction of myself! I'm James, I'm 22, originally from Yarm in the north east of England and about to start on a travel round the world!

I started this blog as a way to track/document my travels for the next 12 months. I first started planning my trip last September after some changes in my life and thought now is a better time than any to bite the bullet and do something I had always wanted to do, so I did! Truth be told, I've never looked back and I haven't left yet!

It originally started as a summer discovering the wonders of America which soon spiralled into a full year away hopping continents! (also, if you haven't realised yet, I'm obsessed with punctuation!) So, the plan so far is coast to coast across America, the Mamanuca islands in Fiji, East coast of Australia, a winter season in New Zealand and lots of stop in Asia! (itinerary to come for there...)

So yeah, that's my introduction to me and my trip.

I'll see you on day 1!!
