Leaving Memphis day!! And funny enough the first day we were actually on time for leaving the campsite! That put Becca in a super chipper mood!
We were heading for New Orleans and praise Jesus we had a hotel for 2 nights! I physically can't wait for walls, beds, air con and no frickin bugs!!
I'm pretty sure most people have heard of a big gulp right? Well they are 64oz drink cups (uk large is 16oz) and you can only get them from 7/11 gas stations in America, and annoyingly, we never bloody stop at 7/11 gas stations! So up until now I've never had chance to get one... Until now!! Well kind of. I've never seen such a well equipped gas station before, the place had 7 different types of coffee machines and 6 different flavours of slush machines! And this isn't a station in a city, it was just a random one off the highway! Well I was really impressed... Anyway they sold 64oz cups!! I was sold straight away, up until I actually looked at the size of them, they are just ridiculous, it is probably more than what you would usually drink in an entire day, never mind one cup! And they're all under $2!? So I actually just went for a 32oz in the end, and I got slush flavours Dr Pepper, Fanta Cherry and Fanta Blueberry (rookie mistake, I thought it was raspberry) and a Hershey's cookies'n'cream bar. Well, worst mistake of my life. Literally one of the worst things I've ever tasted in my life. I've never had something taste so purely of artificial, eurgh. Awful.
So now y'all caught up on my slush situation. We can carry on...
We actually went to Becca's house for lunch, we were driving through Jackson Mississippi anyway so she took us there to see her puppy dogs and grab some local grub. Her house was in a gated community and was like something off Wisteria Lane. All that was missing was Bree Vanderkamp! All the lawns were perfectly manicured and the streets were lined with trees and of course, American post boxes!! We'd picked up lunch from Cock on the Walk (LOL) and we got a mixture of catfish and chicken meals which came with these really good sweet fried dough balls. After meeting her three Bassett hounds we went across the road to her neighbour's because she had a pool. Her garden was SUPER cute, it was surround by tall trees, it had a decking which lead into a large blue pool and there were 3 sun lounges perfectly lined up against the pool. We then met Cooper! Little cooper the cutie! He was her neighbours dog who was just the cutest thing ever!
The hotel in New Orleans (feels so good to say that word) we are staying in is really cute. It's an old set of houses which has been converted into hotel rooms. We got told we were split into boys and girls... Sorry, were we back in school? The girls got sent into a large yellow house with beds in every other corner, and the boys were round the corner... What we didn't realise is, we had a private room again!! They clearly think we're a couple... Who are we to correct them!? So we have 2 double beds, a private bathroom and air con (which has taken 24 hours to actually get the room cold!). When we got in we wanted to head out to get a quick look around the French quarter. But as in true fashion, a thunder storm struck with horrendous rain! Of course!! So instead we sat in the courtyard which is so pretty, it has a kitchen set up in it with iron tables and all knick-knacks hung up on the wall, we even had a cheeky little bird hopping between tables looking for scraps of food! So we did our usual of writing our blogs and diaries for a bit then we went to get ready for our night out in New Orleans!!
Once we were all dolled up we met at the girls for a few pre drinks while we waited for our cabs. Becca was joining us tonight, she said she's been saving herself up for New Orleans so I knew we had to be in for a good night!! We went for food first to Mothers which is the place for the best baked ham in the city, which it must of been because there was a queue along the building just to get in! Me and fliss weren't hungry, we just wanted alcohol! So we shared a Gumbo bowl, and it was delicious! It was soup with chicken, sausage and rice. Full of flavour! But the beer was much nicer! We then headed to Bourbon street which is the epicentre of night life. The whole street for as far as I could see was illuminating neon lights, music was blaring from doors and balconies, the street was crammed with people, do I dare say it seemed better than Nashville? I THINK I DO DARE! And I'll give you the one reason why, your allowed to drinks on the streets! There are take away beer stops all the way along which you can go in, get a large beer and just go ahead and wander down the street! How amazing!
So with our beers in hand (and after seeing a shot girl shooting shot tubes from her mouth!) we wandered to the end of Bourbon street to figure out where we wanted to go for the night. Well me, fliss, Julia and Becca took no persuading. I spotted a club with a bar full of male strippers dancing on the bar! So we knew where we were going!! The rest of the group, bizarrely, didn't fancy male strippers so they went back up Bourbon street as we went in.
What a fucking amazing place!! The club was called Oz, it played the most amazing music, it was busy, IT HAD PODIUMS! I was just in heaven! So we literally just danced the night away - we danced on stage with my flashing tube, had too much to drink, gave money to strippers from our teeth (well actually that was just me!) and laughing until it hurt!
New Orleans you've been amazing tonight! Thank you!!
x
