So it's travelling time again!! I know I've been super quiet on here for a long time but I've spent the past few months living and working in Sydney or back in Lismore completely my farm days, so I haven't had a lot to report! However, travelling time has come back around and I'm MORE THAN ready for a bit of adventure...
I finish my final week in Sydney saying goodbye to a great group of friends who I can only wish all the best too for the future and hope for a reunion at some point, but for now it's my time to leave Sydney for the foreseeable future and see more of the world!
Day 306 is pretty important because it marks my final 2 weeks of Australia but it always means I'm officially beginning my adventure home!? Part of me can't believe I'm actually leaving Australia because it's really become a second home to me, especially Sydney, despite living in a hostel and in a 12 bed dorm I've never felt more at home! But alas I must move on and what better place to start than the Australian outback!?
My plan from here until I leave Melbourne for Asia is to travel from Alice Springs, through Uluru, down through the red centre to Adelaide, then from Adelaide following The Great Ocean Road to Melbourne. All within 9 days! Busy, busy! My journey begins with a flight to Alice Springs, it was pretty interesting looking out the window to watch the landscape below slowing change from green and vibrant to the vast redness of the outback... A sign I'd arrived in Alice Springs!
Getting off the plane I was once again greeted with glorious sun and a mild 23 degrees (that's right, mild, I've completely acclimatised to Australian weather and I'm not sure how I'll cope with North East England temperatures again!?). Being a small airport it was an easy transition from plane to shuttle which took me to my hostels doorstep. From things I'd heard and recommendations from people who'd been to Alice, I'd not booked much time in Alice and I was right in doing so. There's not much around! The expectation of red dust roads, saloon bars and tumbleweeds didn't live up! Alice is actually quite a modernised town but it's focus is definitely a base of which people use to leave soon after arriving!
I dumped my bags, got changed and took a walk into the town centre...
My walk more of less turned into a hunt for food so I pretty much walked to Woolworths and back. On my way back I passed Anzac Hill which I'd seen 'advertised' at my hostel as a great place for sunset, so I took a mental note of where it was and would come back in a few hours for sunset.
It was definitely worth coming back for sunset. Climbing the hill took no time at all but the view it provided was lovely. It overlooked the western part of Alice Springs with a mountain range almost framing the town. I took a look around the Anzac memorial which commemorated all the Australian soldiers sent to war before I then slipped off the hill to a spot on it's own to grab some photos of the sun going down over Alice...
